WHAT rubbish is being talked by Patricia Palmer and Frank Baillie regarding the Bewdley town poll (Shuttle/Times and News Letters, June 20).

If these two wish to bombard us with statistics, here are some others.

More people turned out to vote in this poll than for the local government elections, despite the fact that only a miserly five hours was allowed, rather than having the polling stations open from early morning until late at night as is normal.

Eight out of 10 of these people said "no" to this ridiculous calming scheme. How many of our local councillors achieved 80 per cent of the vote when they were elected? Not a single one, I suspect.

It is just plain nonsense to suggest that because the entire population did not vote the result has no validity. On that basis no election anywhere would be considered valid.

It is far more likely that 80 per cent of the people who didn't vote think this scheme is flawed and there are only 20 per cent who want it.

And what a major sulk councillors are having, just because the people of Bewdley dared to express an opinion of their own which is contrary to what they think we should have.
