TWO five-wicket hauls in the space of three days have earned young Miles Illingworth our Evening News/Duncan Fearnley Cricket Sales Ltd. Cricketer of the Week award.
The 14-year-old, whose father is former Worcestershire and England spin bowler Richard Illingworth, scooped the award for his performances for Worcester Nomads' under 15 side.
Miles, who like his father is a left-arm spinner, took five wickets for just three runs as Nomads beat Hagley by three wickets.
He then followed with 5-19 in an eight-wicket success over Stourbridge, giving him an aggregate of 10-22 in the two games.
The wins took Nomads into the county semi-finals of the ECB Sunbank Cricket Championship, and team manager Terry Birt was delighted with his performances, saying: "His bowling in both games was very decisive and put us in control.
"The Hagley game was low-scoring and we only just managed to win that one - if Miles hadn't taken all those wickets we would have been chasing a lot more runs.
"Against Stourbridge he wrecked their innings and kept them to a low score."
Miles is a key member of both Nomads' under 15 and under 16 sides, and also plays for the first team at the Royal Grammar School, Worcester as well as figuring in county and regional representative sides.
Birt believes he could follow in his father's footsteps one day. He said: "I personally rate him very highly as besides his bowling, he is a good batsman as well."
Miles wins a £40 voucher to be spent at Duncan Fearnley Cricket Sales Ltd, at Unit 10 Sherriff Street, Worcester.
