A TEENAGE conservationist from Kidderminster is in the running for the title of Young Environment Champion of the Year.
Jenny Bloxham, 14, of Low Lane, won the regional round of the UK contest organised by the Wildlife Trusts, Severn Trent Water and BBC Wildlife Magazine, and will now go forward to the finals. Jenny Bloxham, 14, who is in the running for an environmental award.
Jenny, who attends Wolverley High School, is a founding member of a group of volunteers which developed the Hall Close Coppice Project, aimed at converting a section of ancient coppice woodland.
The project will create a Celtic-type village area where traditional woodcrafts will be practised and conservation and recycling demonstrated.
Areas of woodland are being cleared to allow more wildflowers, attracting butterflies and bees. Footpaths and a waterfall area are also being cleared.
Jenny, who won £500 at the regional finals, is an active member of Wildlife Watch, the junior environment wing of the Wildlife Trust.
