A WOMAN from Broadway is appealing to the Department of the Environment to allow her to build a bungalow in her garden.
Kathleen Bond, from Glenavon, Pennylands Bank, wants the bungalow erected next to her present home, but Wychavon District Council turned the plans down in March this year.
They were refused on the grounds that the development, between the settlements of Childswickham and Broadway, would be outside the development boundaries.
They also decided that the bungalow would result in ribbon development in open countryside and would set a precedent for further building.
Agent for Miss Bond, Stan Hodges explained that his client had lived in Glenavon for many years and would be reluctant to leave as she had many friends and acquaintances in the area.
He said properties in Broadway had become extremely expensive and it would be doubtful if Miss Bond could afford to purchase a comparable bungalow and have sufficient capital left to provide a reasonable supplementary income to her retirement pension.
He said: "The proposed very modest two bedroom bungalow with garage would be built at the side of her present home on land currently used as a garden/orchard. It would be very much in keeping with its surroundings."
The appeal, to be dealt with by written representation, is expected to be determined by an independent planning inspector sometime after July 24.
