A MIDSUMMER tradition going back more than 220 years has enjoyed more success.
The Church Street Supper - dating back to 1778 when Kidderminster resident John Brecknell left £150 in his will to promote peace and goodwill in the area - took place on Monday. Nichola Craddock, Christopher Gait, Trudy Easton and Keeley Cross are pictured handing out the treats as part of the annual Church Street custom.
Sixty male members of the Church Street community assembled in St Mary's Chantry following a tour of the church and collected £342.50 for Kidderminster's Kemp Hospice. It cares for people with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
In keeping with tradition, loaves and plum cakes were handed out in Church Street on Friday.
And the women's equivalent, held at Kidderminster Golf Club a week ago, was the most successful yet.
The ladies' Church Street Supper was launched in 1993 and was this year attended by 63 people, with a raffle raising £200, also for Kemp Hospice.
