A BELOW par performance saw league leaders Evesham cling on desperately to salvage a losing draw in their latest Worcestershire County League second division outing at Brockhampton.
The Avon Street side will be keen to get back to winning ways after their recent stumbles when they entertain closest rivals Eastnor on Sat- urday.
The home side will be hoping the wicket treats them better than it did last weekend after Brockhampton had rattled up 222-7.
The track became slower and slower as the afternoon wore on and the batsmen were tied down as the experienced duo of Price and Wargen exerted their authority.
Warren Irvine (20), Ian Prince (39) and Simon Cad-wallader (17) dug in to ensure the visitors weren't dismissed despite a late attack of the jitters.
Earlier in the day, the home side seemed set for a score of around 180 until Price blasted a quickfire 35 from a dozen deliveries to lift his side to 222 from their 50 overs.
Quinn Jones (3-36) and skipper Jon Gregory (2-32) were the pick of the bowling attack. Both men then failed to trouble the scorers but Jones's undefeated innings and Will Bailey's similar resistance helped stave off defeat.
Steve Charlton's rich vein of form continued when he hit an unbeaten 120 as the club's second string rattled up an impressive 275-4.
Dave Higginson chipped in with a useful 46 before the home side's declaration.
Brockhampton made a steady start but Will Lloyd struck twice with his off spin to put the visitors on the back foot.
A useful middle order response held up Evesham until Josh Nava's double haul put paid to any thought of an unlikely Brockhampton win to leave their opponents firmly in control and a comfortable winning draw was registered.
