THOUGHTS are now turning towards avoiding the Birmingham League Division One basement after Kidderminster Cricket Club's fifth losing draw of the season on Saturday.

Skipper Sean Lloyd admits there are some key games ahead where points are a must to relieve the pressure.

Kidderminster, overtaken by weekend opponents Worcester in the table, have dropped to fourth from bottom.

It was only a few weeks ago when Lloyd's men were hopeful of making an impression at the top of the division.

But the town captain admitted: "We have five or six big games coming up and need points from these to get us to relative safety.

"Perhaps we will be able to relax a little bit more and play better if that does happen.

"When batting, we need to take responsibility to win the game rather than passing the buck onto someone else.

"Otherwise we could end up in a right mix-up at the bottom."

Kidderminster head to fifth-placed Kenilworth on Saturday without all-rounder Richard Wilkinson who is playing for the MCC staff.

County star Chris Liptrot's back problem continues to keep him out of action but fellow bowler Marc Derrick will have recovered from an elbow injury suffered on Saturday.

Lloyd added: "The weekend was disappointing and we're not playing as well as we can.

"But the rub of the green is not going for us either. Adam Binks got 56 for them yet was caught third ball and given not out.

"It seemed like a blatant big edge but things like that are not going for us."

However, Lloyd has luck in one area after winning the toss seven times in nine league games.

But Kidderminster have not taken advantage with just two victories so far.

He added: "We keep winning the toss but we are not winning the games.

"If we were to lose it more in the second half of the season then we would need to play some good cricket or we could be struggling."
