THE mother of a four year-old boy who drowned in Upton-on-Severn last summer has presented a trophy in his name to the winners of a charity golf tournament.

The event at the Hilton Hotel, Puckrup, raised £1,108 for the Upton unit of the Severn Area Rescue Association, whose divers helped in the search for Dominic Naylor and recovered his body from Upton Marina.

His mum Karen, who comes from Tamworth, is a strong supporter of SARA's water safety programme, which has already reached 3,000 children in schools within a 50-mile radius of Upton.

Some of the money raised will go towards extending the programme further.

The winning team, representing Guest Trucks, had travelled from Birmingham to take part in the tournament as a gesture of support for Mrs Naylor.

They received wine and golf balls in addition to the Dominic Naylor Trophy, which they will hold for one year.

Second prize went to Gavin Pugh, Mark Dewey, Trevor Woodward and Ben Woodward, from the Crown Inn, Kempsey, and one of the Crown's two other teams took fourth prize.

The pro-am tournament, which was the second to be organised by SARA, attracted 21 teams from around the West Midlands and is set to become an annual event.

"The word from those who took part is that they enjoyed it thoroughly and will certainly play again.

"Some have already booked for next year," said SARA fundraiser Peter Pantling.
