BARNARDS Green Seconds entertained Weoley Hill on Sunday on a ground fit for a county match.

BARNARDS GREEN II v WEOLEY HILL

Batting first the Green got off to a slow but assured start, with Marc Jones looking particularly comfortable before he missed a short ball and was out leg before for 15.

Roy Mayo followed shortly after for 12 and then youngsters Tim Price (85) and Mat Brookes (72) put on 110 in just 17 overs. Price was particularly harsh on anything over pitched or dropped short hitting several big sixes.

Brookes showed his good range of shots and worked the ball particularly well off his legs. Price was in sight of his first century for the club when he was brilliantly caught for 85, which brought Andy Wheeler to the wicket and he scored a rapid 23.

Brookes was needlessly run out backing up too far and the experience of Phil Spencer saw the Green through to 239 off their 40 overs.

In reply Weoley Hill were soon in trouble when opener MacGregor was well caught by keeper John Wheeler in the first over off Jamie Longmore.

Hansen and Luhar then took control before Ian Bryant bowled Hansen for 30, but Luhar and Pritchard started to dominate some lacklustre bowling, before the much needed introduction of wily spinner Roy Mayo who had instant success dismissing Luhar (37) with an excellent catch by Marek Wajzer.

With Phil Spencer joining the attack, the game swung back in favour of the Green and his return of 3-22 was the crucial element of the game as Weoley Hill capitulated finishing eight runs short with Mike Oakes picking up two wickets at the death.

On Sunday the Green are back in league action at Swindon.
