RESIDENTS living near the site of a crash which claimed the life of a 61-year-old man say that it was only a matter of time before a fatality happened.

Trevor Keith Dyke, from Tolley Road, Kidderminster, was airlifted to Selly Oak Hospital after a Suzuki 1100 GSXR motorbike was in collision with his Vauxhall Cavalier as he was getting his three-year-old son from the car.

He later died from his injuries.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said Mr Dyke's son and the male motorbike rider sustained minor injuries and were recovering at home.

The accident took place just off the Guarlford Road, at Rhydd Green, at about 3.25pm on Sunday (June 23). Gillian Bramson, who lives just a few yards from the site, on the junction with the Guarlford Road and the B4424, said accidents were a regular occurrence there.

"As residents we feel that the traffic should be slowed down a bit," she said. "About six weeks ago we had something go into our hedge but luckily no one was hurt.

"Almost ever week there's something happening between these two junctions."

Margaret Boaz, who lives further down Guarlford Road, said that spot was notorious for accidents.

"If it does happen, then that's where it does," she said.

Mike Davis, manager of the Malvern Hills Highways Partnership, said work had been carried out at the junction several years ago to improve visibility.

He said: "Without knowing the cause of this accident it's difficult to say what improvements, if any, might be made."

Anyone with information on the accident should contact PC Howard Latham on 01905 723888 quoting c/598297.

An inquest into Mr Dyke's death was opened yesterday (Thursday) at County Hall, Worcester, and adjourned to date to be fixed.
