SO Christopher Kingsley (Your Letters, May 24) wants to see truth, honesty and facts in the debate over Regional Assemblies. What a shame he can't practice what he preaches!
He signs himself as a member of
'The West Midlands Constitutional Convention Ltd'. True, but this is not and should not be confused with the West Midlands Constitutional Convention. WMCC Ltd is nothing more than a 'paper company' formed and registered with Company House to allow UKIP the right to use a name purely with the purposes of confusing the public.
UKIP does not want regionalisation and that in itself is not a problem, it is their policy and they have a right to it. But like so many other new ideas and developments all they see is a European conspiracy.
If regional government is so bad, why is it already working so well in Scotland, Wales, London, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man and The Channel Isles. Have these regional assemblies been forced to secede from the United Kingdom by Brussels? No, they have democratically elected representatives and still bear allegiance to our head of state, the Queen.
I urge everyone, don't be misled by impostors who hide behind misleading names, listen to the facts and the arguments by the real McCoy,
The West Midlands Constitutional Convention.
This is a genuinely broad based organisation of Liberal Democrats, Labour, Conservatives, Trade Unions, business, churches, charities, chambers of commerce, etc. We may not all agree on the way forward and we may have very different criteria but we are there to talk and to listen, not only with each other, but also with anyone who wants to make a constructive contribution.
If you want to know more you can contact Phil Davis 01952 202451 or phil.davis@wrekin.gov.uk. In the meantime, you have been warned.
