THE hands of a Victorian clock at Great Malvern Station were set in motion for the first time in several years this week.
The newly restored timepiece was hung from the roof above the platform on Tuesday by horologist Richard Manning, who has spent months cleaning and repairing it on behalf of Central Trains.
The expert said that although the £1,200 task had been lengthier than usual due to the nature of the clock, it had gone smoothly.
"There's been no problems," he said. "For quite a long time it was out of use. It's been maintained but it's in a location where it has a hard time with the sun at some times of the year and sub-zero temperatures at others. If a close eye is kept on it and small things attended to there's no reason why it should not carry on for another 20 or 30 years."
Chris Gill, a partner in the Station Crafts shop at the station, said he was relieved to see the timepiece working again.
"It's nice to have it back. It means I don't have to keep asking everybody the time," he said.
