SEVEN local dramatic and musical societies are staging a show to celebrate the Golden Jubilee at Malvern's Forum threatre on Sunday, July 7.
Around 200 performers, musicians and backstage staff, under the umbrella of Malvern and District Community Arts Provision (MADCAP), will be performing everything from grand opera to rock 'n'roll in the two-hour spectacular Jubilee! at the Forum.
It is hoped the show will repeat the success of MADCAP's previous charity concert, Millennium Mosaic, which showcased the wide range of musical and theatrical talent from the Malvern and Worcester areas.
Midlands Musical Theatre Group (MMTG) is contributing not one but two segments to the show. Hits of the Brits, created and directed by Val Knight, will recreate well-known songs of the last 50 years, from Downtown to Can't Buy Me Love, while The London Stage encompasses popular songs from West End musicals from Salad Days to Phantom of the Opera.
Malvern Light Opera Society (MLOS) is contributing a section called Rodgers and Hammerstein's Sounds of Music, including such hits as My heart will be blessed and There is nothing like a dame.
Malvern Opera, a new group of singers which has arisen from the recently-disbanded Malvern Hills Opera, will perform dramatic excerpts from Verdi's Il Trovatore, with leading singers Sue Black, David Purcell and Patrick Briddon, supported by the MLOS Choir.
Worcester Operatic and Dramatic Society recently staged their 149th show, West Side Story. They will be performing extracts from this as their contribution to Jubilee!
The society's youth's section, known as WODYS, will also be on hand to give the audience a foretaste of their production of Annie, which is being staged in full at Worcester's Swan Theatre later in the summer.
Worcester Gilbert and Sullivan Society will be performing highlights of their show, The Wicked Waxworks, based on the well-known songs of Gilbert and Sullivan.
Malvern Theatre Players (MTP) are staging extracts from their recent hit production of Shake, Ripple & Roll, which was the group's own all-youth production.
The profits from the evening will be donated to charities associated with the late Frank Blackwell, president of the Malvern Theatres Association.
In a generous gesture, the MADCAP committee has offered to donate any surplus funds to the MTP project, to build a community performance space at the headquarters in Grange Road.
Comperes will be Robert Wilson, of MMTG, and Andrew Howie, of MTP. Set design, stage management and technical support will be provided by MTP.
Tickets for the show, which starts at 7.30pm, are on sale at the Malvern Theatres box office, on 01684 892277.
