A RURAL conference to debate issues affecting the countryside has been welcomed by a leading business organisation.
The Country Land and Business Association (CLA) has called the conference a "valuable initiative".
"At a time when rural economy issues need high quality forums for discussion, this conference is seen by the CLA as a valuable initiative by the Labour Party," said a spokesman.
The conference is due to be held from Friday, July 19, to Sunday, July 21, at Harper Adams College, Newport, Shropshire.
"Opportunities to debate the priorities and concerns of rural Britain are always welcome and this initiative by the Labour Party has our support," said Sir Edward Greenwell, CLA president.
"I hope the CLA will be able to make a valuable contribution to this event and we will be in touch with the Secretary of State to offer our assistance.
"A thriving rural economy and agricultural industry is vital to ensure that communities have a positive future, including affordable housing, good employment, appropriate services, environmental stewardship and opportunities for business diversification."
