A HISTORIC Worcester public house has won an award for being so pretty.
The Mug House, in Claines, has won a Jubilee Heritage Award in the national "Britain's Prettiest Pubs" awards.
They recognise the role pubs play in helping to preserve the best aspects of the country's built environment and in safeguarding the country's architectural heritage.
Hundreds of pubs, bars and other hostelries from all over Britain competed for the accolade, launched to commemorate the Queen's Golden Jubilee.
"We were looking for examples of any buildings that contribute to the overall environmental picture," said a spokesman.
Landlady Judy Allen said she did not think she had stood a chance.
"I thought we'd get lost in all the paperwork," said Ms Allen.
"When it came through the post I was absolutely delighted. I'm so proud of the place anyway. It really is lovely."
The 900-year-old pub is thought to be haunted and is due to feature in a TV documentary on the supernatural later this year.
The "Prettiest Pub" awards are part of the Green Organisation's "Green Apple Environment Awards", which cover countries, companies, councils and communities and are now in their ninth year.
The Green Organisation is an independent, non-profit, apolitical group dedicated to environmental best practice.
