A TWO-storey side extension, proposed for 1, Freemantle Drive, Kempsey, would detract from the character of the building, say planning officers.
The owners want to build an extension incorporating the attached garage to provide a ground floor utility room and first floor bedroom and store.
But the application is being recommended for refusal when it is considered by Malvern Hills District Council's northern area planning committee next week.
The officers' report says the building would project from the front of the original house and its forward-facing gable would be discordant with the original roof style.
The form, scale and height of the proposed extension would make it unduly prominent and it would be harmful to the character and appearance of the house and established street scene.
Allowing the plan would set a precedent, making it more difficult to refuse similar proposals in future, says the report.
