ONCE again, the Fire Brigade has been called out to the Bilford Road Waste site.

I believe this is quite a regular occurrence - this time the fire was caused by children collecting material from the waste skips, carrying it into the nearby wood, and setting fire to it or throwing it into the canal.

There is no security at the rear of this site. Children and others can come and go as they please.

We rang the police at about 7.30pm on June 21. A police van and car arrived soon afterwards and drove past the rear of the site where the problem was located, without stopping. Had they stopped, the culprits would have been caught.

We also rang the city council on Thursday, June 20, to report the lifebelt from Bilford Bottom Lock had been removed, carried up the canal and discarded under the footbridge in Wordsworth Avenue. They promised to send someone up to collect it right away - that was several days ago and it is still there. We hope it was not needed.

You do your best to help, but is it worth it?
