A WORCESTER teenager has struck gold at a regional swimming competition.
Nicole Lindsey, aged 13, scooped four gold medals at the npower Active contest in Wolverhampton last Sunday.
Nicole, of RNIB New College, Worcester, was joined by a record 180 swimmers with physical, learning and visual impairments at the championships, organised by the English Federation of Disability Sport.
Athletes aged 10 to 50 came from Shropshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Staffordshire to compete in 62 events.
Nicole won the 50m and 100m freestyle and 50m and 100m backstroke events.
The swimming contest is the second in the npower Active programme, which runs throughout the year. It aims to provide wider opportunities for people with physical or learning disabilities to get involved in sport.
"This year's competition was the biggest and best ever," said Dennis Hodgkins, regional development manager for the EFDS.
