RISING basketball star Jamie Burchell is set to represent Great Britain against the best sides in Europe after his college was victorious in the British Universities Sports Association Finals.
The 22-year-old from St John's, Worcester, was a member of the College of St Mark and St John side in Plymouth, where he is a student, that proved the top university team in the country.
They defeated Oxford 79-78 in a thrilling national final, played at RAF Cosford.
Burchell will fly out to Slovenia later this month with his college to compete against 13 other nations in the tournament.
And the six foot five Burchell, who also plays regularly for National Conference side Plymouth Raiders, is relishing the challenge.
"It is going to be completely different and we will be coming up against styles of play that we have not encountered before," he said.
"I'm six feet five but they have players at seven feet and over so it is going to be a great experience."
Burchell is no stranger to success, having reached the national finals at Wembley with Plymouth last year.
