WHILE I am pleased to see that Pershore Operatic and Dramatic Society had packed audiences for their show Oliver at the Swan Theatre, Worcester (You Say, June 24) I am saddened that the Norbury Theatre's recent production of the musical Scrooge in Droitwich was not similarly well supported.
All right, so it seems a bit odd to have been putting on a show based on Dickens' A Christmas Carol in June. But it is a great musical and the Norbury's production of it was truly excellent, with first-class principal performers and a full "all singing, all dancing" chorus that included many enthusiastic and talented youngsters.
Many of the same cast will soon be starting work on their annual Christmas production of a traditional family pantomime (which is why Scrooge could not be put on in the winter), provided of course that they are not feeling too discouraged by the barely half-full houses to which they played on several nights for Scrooge.
Come on Droitwich. You have a super little theatre and a lot of great local talent - if Worcester and Pershore can pack the house every night (and the Swan is much bigger than the Norbury), why can't you?
DR R M PEBERDY,
Droitwich.
