A KNIFE-wielding Worcester man pulled the blade across his own throat, shouting at another man "you're dead, you are".
Christopher Finch drew the knife backwards and forwards across his neck when he spotted the man he thought had been involved in an assault.
Suzanne Llewellyn, prosecuting at Worcester Magistrates Court, said Finch lashed out at around 12.30pm on Sunday, May 12. The victim had been visiting a friend.
"He had his identity questioned and Mr Finch invited him to follow him to his house, only to have the door closed," she said.
"The defendant reappeared holding a screwdriver and the man was accused of assaulting a youth. He then walked away."
The victim returned to the house in Woodmancote, Warndon, at 6.45pm. Finch, aged 38, left his house but returned 10 minutes later and saw him.
"The defendant started to stare at him," said Miss Llewellyn.
"The victim walked towards him to see what the problem was.
"Finch went inside and came out with a serrated knife and drew it backwards and forwards across his neck, saying 'you're dead, you are'.
"He ran towards the victim who ran off."
Finch admitted he had used threatening behaviour.
"There was a good deal of provocation in respect to the other man," said Tim Sherwood, defending.
"It has to be said he simply asked whether he assaulted the other person or not.
"After that there was a degree of animosity, but at no time was he closer than 20 yards."
Magistrates adjourned for pre-sentence reports. He will be sentenced on Tuesday, July 30.
