A REPORT on levels of electromagnetic radiation from a cluster of Headless Cross telephone masts claims they are well within safety limits.

Residents demanded a survey around Headless Cross water tower because of concerns about the possibility of harmful radiation from the large number of masts on its roof.

But the report by Electromagnetic Surveys Limited, showed radiation levels were up to 5,300 times lower than the recommended safety limits.

The survey of the area in February looked at 15 sites around the tower in Headless Cross Drive.

The highest reading was at the junction of Birchfield Road and Headless Cross Drive but that was still 1,200 times lower than what might be deemed harmful.

But residents at a Headless Cross Neighbourhood Group meeting on Monday were still unconvinced.

They said there was still no long-term proof that such radiation had no effect on human health.

They were also concerned at the prospect of another mobile telephone mast being placed in Windmill Drive.
