SO, another Advertiser/Messenger League season is confined to the record books with the usual winners and losers.

And to mark the occasion, the league held its annual general meeting and awards ceremony at the end of June.

It's been a competitive season, which has seen some titles decided with the final games.

Division one saw a reversal of fortunes from 12 months ago, with Rubery Social, runners-up in 2000/2001, winning the league ahead of second place Mostyn Rangers.

Rubery led from day one and never really looked back. Losing two games all season, the team finished up with a comfortable ten-point margin and were well worthy of their title.

Their dominance was underlined still further with the addition of both the LMS Shield and Bridgwater Cup to their trophy cabinet.

At the other end of the table, Meadow Park struggled and their nine-point tally is testament to that fact. But one feather in their cap is they were one of the two teams to take points from Rubery Social.

It has to be said that Ringspanners won division two the hard way. Involved in outside cup competitions, Dean Waldron's side needed to win their last six games to stand a chance of pipping Merlin for the championship.

Ringspanners won five of their games and faced a final game showdown with Merlin for the title and ran out 3-1 victors.

Merlin had seen the title snatched from under their noses Ringspanners had the games in hand and Merlin were virtually powerless to stop them.

Division three winners, Sporting Harborne, were also involved in an end of season sap with Chawson Old Boys.

The rivalry had lasted all season with the teams neck and neck but things really heated up when Alvechurch Darts Reserves were removed from the promotion equation, leaving the two to battle for the title.

In the end, Sporting Harborne won the league with a game to spare and finished the season, along with Forest Falcons, having only played 15 of 16 games.

But the closest contest came in division four.

A three-way tussle developed between Abbeydale Wanderers, Freemasons and Real Archers in the quest or glory.

The teams were head and shoulders above the rest, as the final ten-point gap between third and fourth showed.

Eventually, Abbeydale Wanderers won the battle by four points from Freemasons, winning 14 of their 18 games in the process.

As far as the youth league was concerned, there was little to choose between the sides, with the exception of Droitwich Spa, who failed to register a single point in either the league or cup competition.

In all, eight games were played in the league and eight in the cup, which was played on a league basis.

Bromsgrove Town were crowned league champions while Church Hill United fought off Redditch United for the cup.
