THE mid week matches this week started on Monday, June 24, with the West Midlands Police Championships at Earlswood Engine House Lake.
The carp fed freely to produce a close result headed by Clive Nixon (Rugeley) who bagged 26 fish by alternating pole and pellets with method feeder for 95-0-0 from Council bank peg 61.
Tony Webb (West Bromwich) took second place with 81-3-0; third placed Brian Breakwell (Norton Canes) had 80-6-0.
On Tuesday, Northfield's Starlets Veterans were at Moorlands Farm and it was Ken Giles (Alvechurch) who showed the way by pole fishing chopped worm and casters at Moors Pool peg one for 36-10-0.
Stan James (Bewdley) followed with 25-9-0 and third was Brian Hill (Stourport) with 24-11-0.
The Annual Angling Plus Classic was also fished at Moorlands Farm on Tuesday over two four-hour matches. The title went to Wayne Mellings (Fosters Tipton) for a two point total and 106-6-0 catch worth £700.
Darren Clewley (Wesson) was second with two points and 98-9-0; third place went to Neil McLinnon (Shakespeare) with two points and 98-5-0.
At Woodlands View, the affordable open was held on Deans Pool and saw joint winners Dave Horne (MOD) and Bill Drew (Bewdley) both with pole corn and meat catches of 51-11-0. Third was Dick Wood's (MOD) 42-13-0.
On Wednesday at Woodlands View, 62 anglers competed in the Angling Plus Pole Championships on all pools and it was fishery regular Chris Robson (AOK) who lifted the trophy and the £400 top prize.
His ton up catch of 105-3-0 was taken with strawberry flavoured meat from Deans Pool peg four. Lee Richards (Lifestyle) had a second placed catch of 103-4-0 from Arles peg 36 with Grant Albutt (Milo) taking third with 97-4-0 from high peg 22.
The Astwood Fisheries Bluebell pool saw 200 Crucian carp go in the net for winner John Halfpenny (Astwood) by waggler fishing worms to the island at peg eight for 68-5-0.
Way back in second place with 37-9-0 was Charlie Wheelwright (Cobra) and third was Paul Webley's (Kateshill AC) 23-14-0.
The Moorlands Farm Meadow Pool open was held on the Meadow pool with winner Nigel Davie (Portabello) pole fishing corn at five metres at peg 21 for 72-5-0. David James (Lifestyle) was second with 68-8-0; third was Rob Gandley (Map Startlets), taking 56-6-0.
Wednesday evening saw the Birmingham Civil Service ten man side play host to a three hour challenge event against West Midlands Civil Service on Elmdon's Silver fish pool. The home team won with a 38-7-0 total to West Midlands' 30-13-0.
Birmingham had the top three individuals headed by Steve Lile who pole fished pinkies over pellets for a mixed 9-15-0 catch; second was Ray Quiney's 7-13-0; third was Gary Clayton's 7-8-0.
Thursday's Moorlands Farm Special Costcutter open was a big match for winner Adam Toal (Lifestyle) who put 132-0-0 on the scales by pole fishing corn at Meadow pool peg 40.
Dave Matson (Colmic) followed with 84-12-0; third was Chris Haile (Barford) with 81-4-0.
King's Heath Startlets Veterans were at Broad Acres Main Lake for their event on Thursday afternoon and winner Harold Willey (Kidderminster) had an easy victory.
He pole fished cat meat for seven carp from peg five weighing in at 26-8-0. The rest of the field struggled for bites with John Grazier (Stoke Prior) needing just 6-12-0 for second place while third was Doreen Putnam's (Quinton) 4-8-0.
The Midlands Bears Disabled Club held their latest contest on Woodlands View Arles pool with King's Heath's Vic Cutts pegged at peg 14 where he pole fished corn for a top catch of 40-6-0.
Jim Bunwell's 35-12-0 was second and in joint third place were Keith Chambers, Terry Shipley and Dirk Williams all with 30-6-0.
On Friday afternoon the Woodlands View Deans Pool open saw the in-form Kevin Slade (AOK) take a 96-6-0 top catch with pole fished strawberry meat from peg 50. Team mate Chris Robson followed with 86-5-0 and Matt Cox (Fieryholes) took 84-8-0 for third.
Saturday's Woodlands View Open was held on Deans and High pools with Jason Smith (AOK) just missing the ton with a winning 99-1-0 carp haul by fishing strawberry meat at Deans pool peg 42.
Slade (AOK) had to settle for second place with 61-4-0 and third place went to Steve Hemingray's (Daiwa Dorking) 47-11-10.
The River Avon around Warwick was the setting for the Annual Lucas National Team Championships.
Steve Hopkins (Girling B) took the top individual honours by ground bait feeder fishing with worm on the hook on the Avon Street section, taking three bream with the best at five pounds for a 9-13-0 tally.
Runner-up Barry Sayer (Marston Green) had 7-12-0; third, Mick Jones (Girling A) had 6-13-0. Team champions were Marston Green with 75 points, Lucas Bryce A 73, LIC Coventry 61.
On Sunday, the Astwood Fisheries Buddleia pool open was won by Redditch matchman Gerry Lundy (Studley Road) who pole fished corn and worms at peg 64 for a tench and silver fish catch of 24-2-8.
Ssecond, Mark Roberson (Droitwich Angling Centre MG), took 17-15-0 and third was Rob Francis (Droitwich Angling Centre MG) with 13-4-0.
Round two of the Birmingham Civil Service Individual Summer league was fished on the Black Boy section of the Grand Union Canal, in Knowle.
King's Heath's Dean Harvey showed the way with a 1-14-8 perch and skimmer catch taken with pole fished pinkies over squats from peg 61. Catshill's Gary Booth followed with 1-11-2 and third was Eddie Matthews' 1-8-6.
Moorlands Farm's Meadow pool open was topped by Ian Whitehouse (Wesson) with a ton up catch of 105-8-0 taken with short pole and corn from peg 51. Runner-up Andy Robinsin (Lifestyle) had 84-8-0 with third placed Pete Whitehouse (Wesson) taking 75-12-0.
The Alvechurch fisheries Horseshoe Pool open saw CSM members take the top three places with Paul Guise in first place with a 99-8-0 catch taken with pole corn and meat from peg 26. Second, Alan Sutton, took 57-14-0 and third was Mark Bradley's 55-3-0.
Good catches were recorded at the Furnace Mill open with Chris Ball (Spartans) taking a winning 73-2-0 catch by pole fishing meat at Mucky Meadow pool peg 48.
Team mate Chris Whitehouse followed with 61-8-0 from Willow peg 58. Jez Williams (Strettons) was third with 58-13-0.
