A DETERMINED Bromsgrove man donned his walking boots and put his best foot forward for an extravagant 24-hour expedition in the name of charity.

Thirty-four-year-old Mike Dudley, an employee at MG Rover, in Longbridge, along with his team of seven completed the National Three Peaks Challenge in 23 hours and three minutes to raise over £200 for Bromsgrove's Primrose Hospice and Cancer Help Centre, in St Godwalds Road.

The dedicated team, which raised over £1,000 altogether for various charities, set off to brave the elements of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike in the Lake District and Snowdon, in Wales , on Friday, June 21.

The Brecon Avenue, Lowes Hill, resident said: "We started to climb Nevis at 4pm on a very steep and zig-zag path.

"We proceeded to the summit after scaling the last 50 metres or so of snow.

"But the summit was misty and vision was poor so it was a quick turn around and back down."

The energetic team conquered the towering mountain of Scotland in just under three hours before heading down to the Lake District in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Despite less than 10m of vision, the team made their dangerous climb up Scafell Pike before returning to the base just after 6am.

Mike added: "It was very wet and cold and with time running out and the 24 hours looking in doubt, it was time to pick up the pace.

"With no time to change, we were off, peeling wet clothes off, right through to the skin and gorging on anything that would give us energy or keep us awake."

The dedicated group made their courageous ascent up the last peak in two hours before returning to the car park to a raptuous applause, photos and cool beer.
