BROMSGROVE Rovers chairman Tom Herbert believes the team has what it takes to win promotion from the Dr Martens Western next season - even though there are still six weeks to go before it kicks-off.

The Rovers supremo says the honeymoon period of the Midland Alliance is over and the now it is time to get down to business.

The players meet up for training this Saturday and Herbert has no doubt what he expects from them.

"I am looking for promotion," he said. "Now we get down to the serious business."

"You only have to look at last season's performances and the fact we have managed to keep most of the team from last year."

Herbert fears no team in Rovers' path next season in what looks, on paper, an open Western division and he thinks that, if anything, Rovers should be the ones to watch.

He said: "I watched quite a lot of the Western league last year and there's not much difference between the Midland Alliance and the Western league."

But it will not come without hard work and the current squad will need adding to if Herbert's aims are to be achieved.

"We are looking for another four or five players before the season starts just to strengthen the squad," he added.

And things are already looking up with the sale of 20 season tickets - 15 more than last year - although an FA Cup run to the second qualifying round like last year would help.

But the club will still need to attract between 400 and 450 fans through the turnstile each week to break even.

Mr Herbert is also looking for more help behind the scenes at the Victoria Ground. He wants more people to join the board and more people to help in general around the club.
