I was delighted to read that Redditch Council had chosen to name a street after the founding father of Pakistan, Mohammed Ali Jinnah (Advertiser, June 12).

On behalf of the Redditch Pakistan Community Forum and its members, I wish to thank and congratulate the Redditch Council committee members for their bold and courageous step in recognising the aspirations of the Pakistani community who have made this town their home since the early 60s.

Redditch Pakistan Community Forum is a non-political organisation and exists primarily to assist the community in their day-to-day problems, to promote Pakistani culture and to forge links between local organisations and institutions to create a better understanding and harmony between the communities at large.

With great assistance and co-operation received from all sides (Redditch Council, police, fire brigade and others) RPCF is making a good progress.

I am saddened to read letters from residents of Redditch opposing the naming of this street, but this is to be expected in the democratic society.
