A MOTORIST is to face charges of causing death by dangerous driving after a man was killed during a head-on collision, weeks before he was due to retire.
Mervyn Walker, who lived in Whitbourne, near Worcester, died after his red Reliant Robin was involved in a head-on collision on the A44 Worcester to Bromyard Road at Cotheridge, two weeks before Christmas.
The 64-year-old grandfather, who was due to retire on his 65th birthday in February this year, worked as an inspector at Joy Mining Machinery. Friends and family described the avid horse-racing follower as a "larger than life" character with a great sense of humour who would be missed by all who knew him.
During yesterday's inquest at County Hall, into Mr Walker's death, Worcestershire coroner Victor Round confirmed the Crown Prosecution Service would be pressing charges against the driver accused of causing the incident.
He added that Mr Walker had died from "multiple injuries" and adjourned the inquest to allow the case to be heard at Worcester Crown Court.
