A DISABLED Worcester pensioner has fired a broadside at "selfish" drivers who hinder her and many others from going about their daily lives.

Betty Davis is calling on motorists to show a little more consideration when parking.

The 71-year-old has spoken of her frustration at drivers parking in front of dropped kerbs in St John's, making it almost impossible for her to manoeuvre around the shops.

"It is really annoying and these people who park their cars like this don't seem to realise how difficult they make life for disabled people," said the widow, who lives in Lapal Close, St John's.

Mrs Davis, who has had two replacement hip operations due to chronic arthritis, said her visits to the heart of St John's were blighted by some car owners.

"I just can't get down off the pavement when they park like this. It stops me from shopping and it is not like this is an occasional thing. It seems to happen often."

Due to her health, Mrs Davis is totally reliant on using her car and then a special buggy to get around, but she believes the increase of traffic on Britain's roads can only hinder people like her.

"It seems to be happening all over the country."

She added it was not only the disabled who were suffering because of inconsiderate parking.

"This is also a problem for mothers with prams. It is very dangerous and selfish."

No one from West Mercia police traffic department was available to comment on the matter.
