SONGS OF PRAISE MASTER CLASS: As a part of the Village Jubilee Celebrations David Griffiths conducted a Master Class in St. Peter's Church. In a most amusing but very professional way he encouraged the many present to sing hymns with greater enthusiasm and feeling. The evening was much enjoyed.
WILLERSEY IN PICTURES: The exhibition of photographs depicting life in Willersey over the last century was well attended and much appreciated. Mr Maurice Andrews showed part of his collection of photographs and gave comments on parts of the local history together with a video of the country fair held in the village.
As a result, a collection raised £108 for the Village Hall Improvements Fund.
PARISH WALKS: The monthly organised walks continue to be well supported. The next walk will be on Monday, July 15, meeting at the Jubilee Tree at 7pm for a 3-4 mile gentle walk. Inquiries to Ruth Daintith - 853845.
FOXHILL PLANNING APPLICATION: The planning application for major development at the Foxhill Conference Centre has been refused by Cotswold District Council. The proposals were opposed by the parish council and many residents. It is expected that the applicants will appeal against the decision.
WEDNESDAY CLUB: The club's final event of the season was the Jubilee Exhibition in the Village Hall, when members and other residents exhibited an amazing amount of memorabilia of all kinds commemorating royalty and royal occasions over six reigns. A stream of visitors throughout the afternoon enjoyed the exhibits and heard from the exhibitors their reminiscences. The chairman, Helen Rhoden and her committee are to be congratulated on the event.
After the summer recess the club will re-assemble on Wednesday, September 18, with the annual general meeting.
SNOOKER CLUB: The annual prize-giving and social evening was held in the clubroom and during the evening £30 was raised for Guide Dogs for the Blind. Competition winners were: Singles: Andy Smith with Peter Ingles, Runner-up; Over 60's: Harry Holden with Arthur Hawkins, Runner-up; Doubles: Andy Smith and Peter Taylor with Harry Holden and Trevor Beale, Runners-up; Pot-Black Trophy: Andy Smith.
VILLAGE HALL EXTENSIONS: A cheese and wine evening was held at which were exhibited the plans for the hall improvements. The event was well attended and much enjoyed. Details were given of costs and fund-raising - the total cost, including furnishings and other items, is estimated at £59,000 of which present funds and promises of various grants total £52,000. Many events to raise the balance have been organised, the first of which is a coffee morning on Saturday July 6
NEW DATE: The Crack Cancer Campaign coffee morning originally scheduled for June 27 will now be held in the Methodist Church garden next Thursday.
