A NEW series of guided walks through history puts its best foot forward at the weekend with Bretforton and Cow Honeybourne.

Walkpast 2002 runs from July to October and features guided countryside walks through Worcestershire's architectural heritage.

Mike Glyde will be leading walkers around the medieval village of Bretforton, then out into the lanes to find Roman roads and the legacy of the Second World War defences. The easy going 4.5 mile walk will detour to the mill mound at Cow Honeybourne and end at the Fleece Inn.

It starts outside the parish church at 2pm.

Advance booking is essential as the county council-organised tours are very popular.

A three-mile tour around the medieval landscape of Throckmorton is set for two different dates in September and October.

County Archaeological Officer Malcolm Atkin will show the evidence of the farming systems and the social system of the village. The walks are set for September 1 and October 13.

Each of the eight walks in the series lasts from two to three hours and costs £5.
