THAMES Voyces chamber choir is to perform a concert in All Saints Church, Evesham, on Saturday, July 13.
Faire is the Heaven starts at 7.30pm and celebrates the English church anthem.
The English Church anthem, together with the settings of the canticles such as the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis, lies at the core of the Anglican choral tradition, which itself has developed into a hugely important aspect of Anglican worship. All the great English composers have contributed to a constant stream of fine music composed in a genre that is the equivalent of the Latin motet to the Roman Catholic Church.
The programme includes works by Tallis, Purcell, Weelkes, Byrd, Walton, Britten and Gardner.
Thames Voyces is the resident chamber choir at South Hill Park Arts Centre, Bracknell, Berkshire, visiting cathedrals across the South of England.
The day after the Evesham concert, the choir will sing at the communion and evensong services at Worcester Cathedral.
The choir is conducted by its musical director Peter White, head of music at Royal Grammar School, Guilford. Tickets for the Evesham concert are £6 (£5 concessions) available in advance from Alan Jackson on 01344 776663 and on the door.
