NEW volunteer firefighters look set to rescue a fire station's full-time cover.
Bewdley fire station - which currently has only enough crew to respond to emergencies on weekday evenings and at weekends - could soon offer a 24 hour-a-day, seven day-a-week response after six people came forward.
At least four volunteers are needed to restore full-time cover and ease the burden on Kidderminster and Stourport crews.
Paul Gittins, who runs the Bewdley station, said he was hopeful a full service could soon be restored, although volunteers still had to be interviewed and undergo medical tests.
"We should be able to crew the station 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and we are still appealing for people to come forward."
But he added: "It's not just us accepting them - it's a two-way thing. A lot of people don't realise how committed you have to be."
