WYCHAVON District Council chairman John Smith, had a special presentation to make at the Jubilee Disco in Pershore organised by fellow councillor Trudy Burge for the chairman's charity.
For weeks Trudy had fooled her father, Ted Annis, into believing that he would not be entitled to his bus tokens on his 65th birthday as, she said, there was a cut-off date at the end of May. Meanwhile, she had hatched a plan with the chairman so that he was officially presented with his tokens at the disco - his birthday.
"We all cheered as this put an end to weeks of Ted's complaining about Wychavon," Trudy said.
The disco with Rocking Rooster at the Civic Centre was a great success and raised £340 for Air Ambulance. There were flags waving all round when Land of Hope and Glory was played, followed by the National Anthem as a tribute to the Jubilee.
"The highlight of the evening for me was definitely dad's presentation," Trudy said. "Only half an hour before, he had been moaning about not being able to have his bus tokens this year."
