GROUPS using Evesham Leisure Centre will reap the benefits after staff at Wychavon Leisure Community Association won a national mobile phone competition.

Centre manager Kay McBride picked up a cheque for £2,002 after buying a Sony Z7 mobile phone for work at the centre from Midland Phones, based in St Andrew's Square, Droitwich.

The store was one of 400 throughout the country that took part in the £2002 for 2002 giveaway, backed by Orange.

All Kay had to do to enter was answer a simple question via text message.

She said she was delighted to have won the money for the Association.

"It will be extremely useful. We plan to help special needs groups who use Evesham Leisure Centre by supporting them with their hire fees," she said.

Midland Phones owner Rebecca Robinson was thrilled to hear that one of her customers had won the prize.

"Without our customers we wouldn't be a success, so it's nice to give something back and great to help such a worthwhile association," she said.
