A LATE slog from overseas star Mandeep Singh failed to rescue a victory for Kidderminster at Kenilworth Wardens in Birmingham League Division One.

They had to be content with a losing draw despite Singh crashing three sixes and two fours from the final over plus three from batting partner Chris Pyke.

KCC ended on 238-6 in their 55 overs, five runs short of a challenging total in the highest scoring match at Kenilworth this season, and claimed six points.

Still ninth in the table, they must look to improve their fielding and take more sharp singles and twos when batting.

Skipper Sean Lloyd put the home side into bat after winning the toss for the eighth time.

Opening bowler Andrew Siwicki struck the first blow in the seventh over through a Mark Mansell catch at 26 runs.

But Kenilworth got into their stride and reached 143 by the 35th over when Mansell again caught well from Singh's bowling to dismiss Adam Smyth (68).

They added 60 runs in the next 12 overs before wicket-keeper Steve Davies took a good stumping off Singh to earn a bowling point.

Pyke's good catch off Mansell removing Shitanshu Kotak for 100 and reduced the home side to 219-4 in the 50th over but they added a quick 24 runs.

KCC were left with a big task but were soon on the attack with a quick outfield.

Mansell and Davies racked up 37 runs in the first five overs against medium-paced bowling.

But a costly error from Mansell, padding up to a ball he could have hit and going leg before, cut the partnership short for 40 in the sixth over.

Skipper Lloyd joined his teenage partner in the run flow but Davies gave a simple catch when on 45 to give Kenilworth a valuable scalp.

A misunderstanding between new man Gurdeep Kandola and Lloyd ran out the captain for 15.

With KCC keeping up the scoring rate, Kandola was controversially adjudged out lbw for 30 runs.

Richard Bradford came in to trouble the bowlers but was stumped on 29 after a few near misses, leaving the visitors needing 65 in the last four overs.

Ted Baylis (11), Singh (76 not out) and then Pyke (6 not out) tried to move the score along but the total proved too big despite the mammoth late effort.

Kenilworth 243-4, KCC 238-6.

KCC seconds had to settle for a losing draw in a balanced home contest with Old Hill.

The visitors batted first and only Chris Willets (72) hit a major score against good bowling.

The attack was led by experienced left-arm seamer Jason Hemming (3-39) who did well to restrict the opposition on a true batting surface.

In reply, KCC started briskly and passed 100 off just 20 overs but at the cost of four wickets.

Darren Andrews struck 35 runs but two slow bowlers made scoring more difficult for Godfrey Lamb and Gavin Evans.

When Evans holed out for 31, two more quick wickets fell as Tom Sherriff and Shaw failed to adjust to the slow pace and low bounce.

Lamb made a last effort to strike the runs but fell for 65, leaving Mark Venross and Luke Eversham to safely secure the draw.

Old Hill 208-9, KCC 2nds 192-8.

KCC thirds held lowly Hallow to a draw in a high-scoring game at Chester Road.

Having to bowl first, their bowlers struggled on an excellent wicket with only Ian Kimberlin and new signing Adam Griffiths offering any sort of control.

A 197 opening stand set a good platform and rare poor fielding helped Hallow to a formidable 303-3 off 45 overs.

KCC's batting started slowly but an excellent third-wicket 97 between Simon Trickett and Andy Logan put the hosts on course for an unlikely victory.

When Logan perished for a quick 52, the scoring rate dropped.

Despite Trickett's excellent 74, defensive fields meant the runs were beyond the home team.

Hallow 303-3, KCC 3rds 250-8.
