THIS weekend sees further action at Shelsley Walsh Speed Hill Climb in Worcestershire as the MAC reached the half way point of the season at the historic venue.
Tomorrow (Saturday) will see the Vintage Sports Car Club (VSCC) bring 100's of their pre-war cars to Shelsley for their annual one day event at the historic Speed Hill Climb, whilst the following day (Sunday, July 7) sees a massive array of road and racing cards form brand new Honda S2000s, Westfield Megabusas, Ford Cosworths, Group B Audi Quattros, Ferraris, Mitsubishi Evos, Lotus', Morgans to 28 Classic card including Mini Coopers and a Ford Mustang.
Many of the cars (Saturday) will have competed on the hill before the war and have continued to do so ever since.
The smells and sounds of those old cars will be there too with ERAs taking centre stage as always on the hill where ERA (English Racing Automobiles) took the best time of the day accolade no less than 20 times before and after the war.
In later years, the marque has taken BTD at the forthcoming VSCC meeting, but it has never been an easy task when up against the Bugatti Type 51 or Charles Dean or the Type 35 of Julian Mazjub.
Last August saw the Pre-war car record fall to David Morris in his ERA with a time of 34.31 seconds. This record is certainly on the cards for falling once more as in the June meeting this year. A record crowd saw the absolute hill record fall to Graeme Wight Jnr with the only sub-25 second climb of Shelsley.
However, with a brand new strip of tarmac on the start line giving extra grip for the tyres, it is fully expected that many of the class records should likewise fall this weekend.
Further motor sport at Shelsley Walsh continued after the July meeting with a further festival of Modern Speed Hill Climbing in August when the British Championship revisits Worcester-shire for the second time this year. Scotsman Graeme Wight Junior will be looking to repeat his tremendous feat in June 2002 when he broke the record as Stirling Moss looked on.
Once more there will be the big screen TV coverage in the paddock so none of the action is ever missed and a specialist class of Racing Ferraris will be the centre of attention for so many people.
Also the Ferrari 212E that came to Shelsley last August in the hands of David Franklin will be returning with it's unsilenced 12 cylinder engine that stopped the whole place in its tracks last year.
