I live in South Wales but my great grandfather came from Ledbury. His name was Alfred Cale and he was born in 1856 to John Cale and Elizabeth Cook.
John, I believe, was born in Kempsey, Worcestershire, in 1831 and Elizabeth in Ledbury in 1836. Both Alfred and his father were stonemasons. In 1881 they were living in Hereford.
John and Elizabeth lived in Bishop Street, Ledbury, where they had six children and then they moved to Hereford, I believe, Barrs Court Road. At this time my great grandfather, Alfred, was in the Militia. John and Elizabeth had living with them their daughter Alice (aged 15), sons Ernest (aged 12), and Henry (aged 22), their daughter in law, Eliza, and grand daughter Alice (aged 9 months). Another son, John, was still living in Ledbury.
I would love to hear from any descendants of this family or any of the other families linked to them - Cook, Lucy, Tustin, Davis, to name but a few. I have visited Ledbury and Hereford and hope to do so again soon but in the meantime I would appreciate any information at all and would love to hear from a 'relative' who might be interested in family research too.
