HUNDREDS of protesters are expected to march on Throckmorton this Sunday after the Government turned down an offer of compensation to villagers.

From 12noon, they will tie ribbons to the perimeter fence of the old RAF airfield in protest at Government plans to build a 'super camp' for 750 or more asylum seekers. MP for South Worcestershire, Peter Luff, is also expected to attend.

The demonstration follows a campaign from pressure group Protest at the Asylum Centre at Throckmorton (PACT), which has seen more than 1,000 people write to the Prime Minister and The Home Office. PACT has also written to every MP, urging them to put pressure on the Government to ditch the proposal.

PACT spokesman Rupert Segar said: "We will be leaving the Government a big visual testament to our opposition to the scheme.

"It is a foretaste of what's to come in later months.

"We have now got a fighting machine which is able to organise a big protest at just a few days notice."

He also said that a campaign to get people to pledge money to pay for a public inquiry would begin next week.
