A COMMUNITY fete in Poolbrook to celebrate the Golden Jubilee proved so successful that organisers are to repeat it next year.

Hundreds of people turned out to enjoy stalls, martial arts, Scottish dancing, competitions, face-painting and sideshows on the common outside the Foley Institute on June 1.

Organisers meeting at the Three Horseshoes pub on Tuesday (July 2), were told that the fete, which had a turnover of £3,000, generated £1,800 profit.

This will be shared equally between First Malvern Scouts, Brook Farm Community Association and the Foley Institute.

Members then voiced support for a similar event at the end of June in 2003.

Angela Noble, chairman of the committee, said that all the feedback she had received had been positive.

"We've had several thank you notes from people and everyone we spoke to said they enjoyed it," she said. "People said they went back in the evening and met people they had not seen for a long time."

She admitted the fete's success in drawing hundreds of people might have been at least partially due to the fine weather, but added that the committee members had expressed enthusiasm for a repeat of the event regardless.

Organisers will also invite local schools, including The Chase High School and Poolbrook Primary School, to get involved.

Mrs Noble said the fete, now being called the Poolbrook Community Event, could be repeated on an annual or biannual basis, depending of the popularity of next years.

The committee is now to apply to Malvern Town Council for a grant to cover insurance, PA system hire and other costs, before meeting again in September.
