PROFESSIONAL and amateur artists from Malvern are being asked to provide examples of their work for a charity sale.

The postcard size paintings will be auctioned anonymously, so that buyers could end up with a work by a 'famous' artist.

Proceeds will go to the The Plum Tree Women's Project in Malvern.

Liz Tuck, who lives in the town, is drumming up support for the sale at the Lyttelton Rooms in September.

"Each piece will be sold anonymously at £5," she said.

"They do a similar thing at the college of art in London, where they sell everything for £50, but I thought Malvern was not quite ready for that! There are lots of well-known Malvern artists, so it should be very interesting.

"I think people will come for the fun of it."

The Plum Tree Project, where Ms Tuck works voluntarily, helps women and children fleeing violent partners. It changed its name from Worcester and Malvern Women's Project at the turn of the year, to give it a definitive identity and help with grant applications.

Run by the national Stanham Housing Association, it relies on fundraising to pay for activities such as days out for children and their mums.

Plum Tree project worker Jo Justice praised the efforts of Ms Tuck and the project's support group, which is made up of local people.

She said: "The support group gets together to come up with ways of raising funds for us. Liz actually comes and volunteers for us one day a week. Her sale idea is a great idea. She's organised it all and got in touch with people."

Ms Justice said that the sale would also increase awareness of the project as well as raising funds.

The anonymous art sale takes place on September 7, from 10am to 4pm.

Artists who would like to contribute a painting, should contact Liz Tuck on 01684 892996.
