THE former Kwik Save store in Evesham, which has been closed since the mid-1990s, is set to be revamped as a discount store.
With the help of Wychavon District Council, the Market Towns Partnership and the private sector, the premises are set to open in September as a Superpound discount store.
"We've been working hard towards this for a long time," said Lew Hammond, Wychavon's town centres officer.
"The company opened a store in Droitwich High Street, which has been a great success for them and the local high street traders, and we hope for the same in Port Street.
"Other town enhancement schemes in Abbey Park, Waterside and Workman Gardens should be completed by the autumn."
The community has welcomed news of the arrival.
"We welcome the store and wish it every success - it's an important event for the street," said Bengeworth's Traders secretary Susan Earnshaw.
Evesham's chamber of trade treasurer John Stych said work on the building would be completed in around two months and will start before the end of July.
"This addition will revitalise Port Street which has suffered greatly since the closure of Kwik Save and the floods of three years ago," he said.
