A WOMAN accused of driving her car at a former boyfriend has been cleared after reaching an agreement with police.
Jenna Everley, aged 21, was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm.
But prosecutor William Rickarby said, after a meeting with police about the charge, she was informed she would not be prosecuted.
Mr Rickarby told Worcester Crown Court that in those circumstances the Crown was not prepared to proceed. He said a row had broken out between the defendant and her ex-boyfriend Nicholas McLoughlin after mutual promises had been made.
Judge Michael Mott asked whether it wasn't "wholly improper" for the police to give the defendant such an assurance without consulting the Crown Prosecution Service. Mr Rickarby said the problem was being addressed.
Judge Mott gave Everley, of Dunlin Drive, Kidderminster, a not guilty verdict but added: "Do men get the same treatment if they drive their cars at women?"
