A MAN who played an integral part in several Alcester groups and organisations has died after a short illness.
David Cargill, or Jock, was born in Arbroath on May 27, 1920, and met his wife, Marion, during the war on the Fleet Air Arm Station at Easthavon.
He was a founder member and secretary of the Trades and Labour Club, a member of the town council and Stratford Council, a governor of Alcester High School and a member of the Court Leet.
As councillor he was instrumental in providing housing for many people in Alcester.
His crowning achievement was the internationally recognised reconstruction of Malt Mill Lane, along with the Jubilee Court development and the retaining of the then-threatened Meadow View. Mr Cargill retired to Malt Mill Lane. He leaves a widow, a son and daughter and two grandchildren.
There will be a service at St Nicholas Church at 1pm tomorrow, followed by a committal at Redditch crematorium.
