I WOULD like to express my disgust at the treatment of skateboarders in Alvechurch.

Several children aged 13-14 have taken a strong interest in this sport.

The only skate ramp that was available to them was removed by adults who deemed it too much of a nuisance.

These youths have chosen not to hang around on street corners looking menacing, nor hang around in the bus shelter, nor disturb younger children who use the park and football facilities, but to use Tanyard Lane car park to board on.

This does not disturb people walking through the village nor drivers who park their cars as they choose to skateboard when the car park is virtually empty.

Yet still they have been harassed by adults who do not seem to want our younger generation to enjoy themselves.

As a 49 year old, I remember as a child whizzing down streets sitting on a book on a roller skate and recall the pleasure and laughter it gave.

I am sure these adults must remember these fun times of being young and should be glad that these youths choose to occupy themselves rather than get so bored they turn to mischief.

Let's encourage them to be happy and they will respect us in turn.

Leave them alone. Remember you were young once.
