A CELEBRITY gardening presenter will be taking to the skies to help a children's charity blossom.

Chris Beardshaw, who presents BBC2's Flying Gardener series and often appears on Gardener's World, will fly to Webbs of Wychbold, near Droitwich by helicopter.

A £10,000 cheque for the charity will be handed over to him, before he jets to Acorns' Bath Road site, earmarked for the new hospice.

Cash has been collected from staff and customer donations and special events, organised as part of the Greenfingers Appeal, a horticultural and gardening industry initiative supporting the National Association of Children's Hospices.

Webbs has adopted Acorns as its charity for the year.

"Together with the Greenfingers Appeal, we would like to thank Chris Beardshaw for giving his time to raise public awareness for the future of Acorns' hospice in Worcester," said Marigold Webb, director of Webbs of Wychbold.

"At the same time, we would like to thank those of our customers who have already followed the Acorns Trail through our Riverside Gardens and given generously.

"We look forward to helping recreate some of the beauty of those gardens at Acorns in Worcester."

Simon Burne, director of fund-raising for Acorns, will be presented with the cheque at the new hospice site.

"This donation is a real boost to our fund-raising appeal," he said.

"The gardens and grounds at the new hospice are very important to both the children and their families.

"We're planning to create a range of landscaped and themed gardens, including space to play, places to relax and special features which will provide peace and calm."

Mr Beardshaw will arrive at Webbs at 10am on Sunday, July 14.
