THERE has been mixed reaction to news that route Orders for a western Studley bypass will be lifted by Government.
While Redditch residents were jubilant, those in Studley who have fought for years for a Western bypass expressed dismay.
Last week, Transport Minister John Spellar confirmed to Redditch MP Jacqui Smith that the Orders would be lifted, removing the blight which had affected the value of many Redditch homes.
But A435 Bypass Action Group chairman Jim Clarke, who supports a western bypass, reluctantly acknowledged the news could mean an eastern bypass is the only option left.
Jacqui Smith also felt the news was a clear indication that a western route would not be built and said she was happy Redditch homes would no longer be blighted.
Studley Easterly Relief Road Action Group chairman Brian Danks said his group was still lobbying for an eastern bypass and was pleased the Orders were to be lifted.
