A TEN-year-old Bromsgrove boy will grace the pitch at Lord's cricket ground this Saturday as he aims to be named the fastest U12s bowler in England.
Off-spinner Michael Tomkinson, of Green Park Road, recorded a top speed of 46.3mph in the U12 category at a NatWest cricket roadshow in Birmingham last month.
The roadshows, held across the country, were looking for the fastest bowlers at U12 and U17 level for boys and girls.
And Michael, whose twin brother Andrew is also a keen cricketer, was selected as the Birmingham winner.
He joins 20 others in the final on the pitch before the group watch the NatWest Triangular Series final between England and India.
Their father, Gary, said: "He (Michael) is absolutely cricket mad, as his brother and I am.
"He's done remarkably well as he is only ten-years-old and some of the lads he was up against were 12-years-old.
"We were at Lord's recently to watch Warwickshire in the Benson and Hedges final."
And if Michael does well in the bowling competition, he will be invited to attend a cricket clinic with England and Yorkshire's Darren Gough.
Both brothers attend Aston Fields Middle School, in Drummond Road, and play at U11 level for Alvechurch and Moseley respectively.
