A GREEN man is taking up residency in Bromsgrove to encourage the town's people to use the new millennium's Royal Hunters Way walk.
Known as Green Man Walking, the three-piece art work depicts a figure walking among trees, emphasising the countryside that the Bromsgrove district has to offer.
"It is an excellent piece of work, which sums up the rural heritage of the area. I hope it will indeed encourage residents to the town to use the commemorative walk way, not only to enjoy the views, but to help them to keep fit and healthy," said Coun Brian Taylor, cabinet member responsible for leisure.
The project is a partnership between Bromsgrove District Council and Worcestershire County Council's Countryside Service to promote a healthier lifestyle and tourism in the area.
Starting in Sanders Park the walk covers three routes - Hedgelayers trail (five miles) the Chartist Trail (eight miles) and the Foresters trail (13 miles) - all heading towards Chaddesley Woods.
Huw Moseley, Bromsgrove's Arts Development Officer said the route was well worth visiting.
"Although in three separate pieces, the sculpture cleverly combines to give the illusion of one single structure as you cross the bridge in the park," he said.
The model arrived yesterday and will be on display in the parks pavilion for four weeks.
The actual sculpture will take over its proper place, near to the children's playground, at the official Walk Way launched in the autumn.
Any groups or organisations who are interested in a presentation about the sculpture should call 01528 881381.
