PARISH COUNCIL: Notes from the meeting held on June 24:
Floodlighting of Church Tower: Awaiting a church faculty. HM The Queen's Golden Jubilee 2002: The chairman thanked councillors Dickenson and Southcott for all their hard work organising the picnic which had gone well. He read out a letter from Buckingham Palace thanking Fladbury for their good wishes. This is to be framed and put up in the pavilion.
Local Plan Review: The village plan had not been altered and had been approved for the second time but is again going for consultation. The parish council had six weeks in which to reply and would be stating that it vigorously opposed development outside the village plan.
Path from Lower Moor: The chairman had attended a meeting of the cycle path group which had been poorly attended. There could be no progress until WDC and the county came up with advice on what to do.
Appearance of pavilion: The chairman was still trying to ascertain if the glass was toughened. Coun Southcott suggested that the paved area be extended and fenced and he would obtain prices for this.
Pot Holes: Further maps indicating holes had been sent to the Highways Department. Mr Lavender said that some of the holes marked did not meet the intervention levels but recommended that the council continued to submit maps. Coun Eyre said the problem in Broadway Lane would be dealt with.
Verge on Station Road: Mr Lavender reported that work on the verge must be left now until October when it could be patched. He also said it would be built up to its original state until everyone was happy with it.
Proposed Asylum Seekers Hostel: The clerk had written to county coun Tucker asking that the parish council be kept informed of developments and that council gave its total support. Jack Hegarty said WDC had not yet received a planning application for the site. This would be in about six weeks. The road from the bypass to Throckmorton would not be built until mid summer next year.
Best Kept Village Competition: Posters had been displayed and judging would take place between June 1 and the middle of August.
Trees in the Village: The tree in Pool Garden had been removed. Permission had been granted to do work on the trees on the recreation ground and this would be done in the autumn. It was agreed that any trees removed should be replaced by another.
Pool Garden: The RoSPA report had mentioned the fencing in part of Pool Garden but it was decided to plant hedging here rather than post and wire.
Wyre Piddle Bypass and consequences: Coun Eyre was asked to comment on this. She had attended a cabinet meeting of seven councillors who had voted to close the road into Wyre Piddle at the railway bridge following the opening of the new bypass, although consultation with the public showed equal numbers for and against closure. Coun Eyre was asked why she had voted for closure as this was contrary to the parish council's wishes. In answer she said she felt she had given satisfactory reassurances to the council's concerns. The majority of the councillors were not happy with her answers and assurances and after further debate a vote of no confidence in coun Eyre concerning this matter was passed. Coun Eyre believed she had done her best for Fladbury and was concentrating her efforts on obtaining improvements at Fladbury Cross now that the road was to be redesignated the A44. The chairman asked coun Eyre to go back to the county council and ask that the road remain open. It was agreed that the clerk should write to the cabinet.
Planning: An application had been received from Mr Osborne, Western Cottage, Station Road to build an additional bedroom above the existing lounge at the rear of the property.
Lighting: Coun Carter reported that he had contacted Pirelli regarding concerns over the appearance of the street lighting. Illustrations and costings would be discussed at the September meeting.
Footpaths: Coun Mills had spoken to Patrick White who promised that the ferry sign would be replaced shortly. He also suggested that the parish council write to Enterprise Inns (the new owners of the Chequers) welcoming them to the village and explain the situation regarding the footpaths around the Chequers. The next meeting is on Monday, September 16 at 8pm in the Pavilion.
